Natural Remedy for Acid Reflux: DISCOVERED

by Jeff Martin

It took 11 years of experimentation, trial and error. Now a qualified nutritionist and former chronic Acid Reflux sufferer reveals the true, natural approach for a cure and prevention of heartburn. Finally, an answer to the question: is there a natural cure or must sufferers from Acid Reflux continue to tolerate prescription medication and its side effects just for momentary relief?

Heartburn, or in medical terms gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), occurs when the one-way valve situated in the esophagus (called the LES - lower esophageal sphincter) becomes weak and unstable, no longer blocking the passage of stomach acid and food back up into the esophagus. The backwards flow of acid (Acid Reflux) often results in a sensation of burning, called heartburn. Because of this, Acid Reflux patients often feel a distinct burning sensation under the breastbone, typically occurring at night.

When this reflux gets to the upper part of the esophagus, the results can be a dry cough, wheezing, hoarseness or a chronic sore. In addition, chronic reflux into the lower esophagus can cause a condition known as Barrett’s esophagus, turning into esophageal cancer in some 0.5% of cases.

So far, these are only the immediate or local causes of Acid Reflux even though they include a weakened LES and other aspects like not having enough stomach acid and several genetic characteristics which are all to be included in a complete cure for Acid Reflux.

Additional factors, acting internally, make for a context that encourages Acid Reflux formation. The condition of Acid Reflux is a complex one brought on by factors and co-factors more profound that the local reasons indicated above. To obtain a natural cure that effectively deals with Acid Reflux, these deeper factors must be treated first.

Even if temporary relief is possible from prescribed medication, intake of these drugs over a period of time will cause numerous side effects, acting as they do only on the immediate causes of Acid Reflux.

Antacids used over a long period of time for example can make the problem worse, because stomach acid is needed for reasons of good digestion and immunity. Temporary relief may come from blockers such as PPIs and H2, but these may also lead to osteoporosis.

Research done recently indicates that diet, lifestyle and patterns of behavior can aggravate an existing heartburn condition, showing preference for an approach that is natural and holistic.

For effective and safe prevention of recurring Acid Reflux, following the holistic approach with the proper diagnosis of your condition and specific supplements of herbs and vitamins can provide a natural cure of Acid Reflux in conjunction with Candida control protocols (also a major contributor to Acid Reflux) and a full set of dietary principles.
